[Matsu Inori]

"Warriors" came the immediate reply, then Inori followed "Well, that's not entirely accurate. My father was a Courtier, but he very much married into a distinguished branch of Matsu officers. I am very much the odd one out"

"But this explains some things, I guess, about Shosuro-san's art and work." and throws up various questions about other aspects of her life, questions I have no business of asking or knowing the answers to.

Which did not stop Inori from being curious.

"A solid base - although excellence can only be supported, it's impossible to force it, no matter what steps are taken or strings are pulled. There is no question your work belongs here."

"You guess?" She questioned, tone a touch amused, though not mocking. "Perhaps we can expand on that discussion further before the tournament's end over tea."

"I agree on your observation regarding excellence with yourself, as well. Your pieces have been consistently both well-executed and thought provoking. While the practice is different, I certainly feel like I have seen the soul of a Lion in your work. I am curious how you ended up in art."

[Bayushi Choudai]

Choudai watched the exchange etween hatsuki and Inori with some pleasure.

He also noted Nadeshiko and Mikan's little exchange.

Yes, how dare I bring her to a meeting with you- when she's literally the only person you seem willing to talk to. How could I be so cruel. Oh woe is you.

"Hmmm" Inori mused, stalling for time.

It had gotten easier to say to herself and others over these past few days.

"The first two pieces I did, they are - something almost like spell scrolls."

Short pause.

"I started seeing things - apparitions, spirits, hints - two years ago and almost went insane trying to figure out what they were. Eventually I started painting them, and that helped me see them more clearly, and understand them. I can now ask these spirits to do things for me."

Like conjuring Barley gruel from thin air. Very Lion.

[Bayushi Choudai]

"Proof, if any is needed, that art is crucial to proper living, I would say."

"Hmmm" Inori mused, stalling for time.

Inori nodded. "They have. It was not my choice, really, but by now I think the judgement of my superiors was...sound. I no longer feel like a fish out of water, thanks in part to people like you, Shosuro-san, welcoming me or being examples to me"

Bit of flattery, perhaps, but it was heartfelt.

[Isawa Kojiro]

The Doji's mouth moved a good three times to open and say something, but each time she thought better of it. Instead she dipped her head as if respecting his wisdom.

"As you say Isawa-sama."

Kojiro grinned a bit at the words.

He took a moment to assess the gathering.

"Sooo....art, yeah? How've you been doing in the competition? Oh, and what is it you do as art?" he asked.

[Doji Yoshino]

"That's right." So he did have eyes and could see beyond himself. Was there hope for him yet? Yoshino was entirely unsure.

"Reasonably well, I hope. One of my entries was among the daily best of shows." She self-consciously placed her hands together in front of herself. "I've actually offered different kinds of art each day. Poetry, calligraphy, ikebana and a story today today."

"Very industrious, curse-chan." he offered as praise. "So tomorrow, after you've been saved what will you do. Dance? Sing?" Both perhaps?"

[Doji Yoshino]

"... It's Yoshino." She tries to correct.

Yoshino puffed her cheeks for a moment as Kojiro clearly ignored her. If the setting were more comedic there would have been some steam lifting off from her head. Instead she smoothed down the front of her kimono as a calming technique.

"If I'm in an especially good mood I would like to sing. My dancing is too amateurish to display at such a competition..." She answered honestly.

[Kakita Akuba]

Another exhibition, another comment from Akuba.

"At least there's no fishing pole fight in it," she says, and moves on.

"Bayushi Choudai-san?" A tall and slightly ruffled Mantis inquires politely - though it appears only his hair is in any way not immaculate.

"This one is Moshi Tatsuya, of the Mantis delegation," the fancy-looking son of the Valley of Sun says with a precise bow. "I am quite pleased to make your acquaintance."

[Kakita Akuba]

Akuba watches another performance.

When it is done, she but shakes her head slightly.

And she moves on to see if any others will grace the gathering today.

"Bayushi Choudai-san?" A tall and slightly ruffled Mantis inquires politely - though it appears only his hair is in any way not immaculate.

"This one is Moshi Tatsuya, of the Mantis delegation," the fancy-looking son of the Valley of Sun says with a precise bow. "I am quite pleased to make your acquaintance."

Well, at least someone's pleased to meet me.

Choudai returned the bow.

"The pleasure is mine, Moshi-san. We could have used a cartographer of your skill during the war."

We still would have lost.

"Have you had rice today? If not, there's some in the sushi I prepared..."

[Akodo Yaukwari]

Yakuwari glances at events in the gallery, but retains attention on exhibitors.

The ronin Tsi Hamada presented a bared blade--wholly bare, even of the fittings that allow its use. The quality of the work was evident, and it is certain the point being made will sink deeply if applied with but a small pressure.

Doji Yoshino recounted a story afterward, a tragic thing bespeaking the peril of the failure of honesty. We must not only be accurate, but prompt, in reporting.

Doji Nadeshiko also presented, not equaling her earlier work, and Kaiu Kunio, Legionnaire, displayed the variety of his skill once again by offering pottery handled with exquisite precision--although it seemed rather to speak to a different virtue than honesty.

[Kakita Akuba]

With the placement of another piece, Akuba moves to examine it.

"A day late," she says, "however well executed."

And then she looks to see if more is forthcoming.

[Kaiu Kunio]

When Kaiu Kunio hears the judge's critique, the only thing he could do is shrug and say, "Oh well, boss needed this vase delivered by next week so it had to be made today" to no one in particular before approaching the new person in town in a proper social event.

He overhears the conversation and takes out his fan before facepalming himself with it. Another Pheonix who has trouble with courtesy? Oh well, best to be cordial now. He quietly stands nearby and bows in introduction when a smooth entrance is possible.

[Moshi Tatsuya]

"Have you had rice today? If not, there's some in the sushi I prepared..."

The Mantis smiles pleasantly and jokes, "Ah, Bayushi-san, I am blessed by the Fortunes everyday," as he pats his kimono. It's an obvious attempt to be self-effacing as the Moshi looks both as slim and strong as a yari.

"I have been meaning to inquire of Bayushi-san, as a most reputable chef, how he finds the various tea houses of this town? There is some splendid variety, ne?" Tatsuya folds his hands into his sleeves as he earnestly awaits the Scorpion's thoughts.
