Her own work will use most of the available presentation time, so Sriyani takes only a brief look at the other presentations at the beginning...and at the end of the standard time, looking at the dour and unfamiliar Crane with some curiosity. Watching the flamboyant Phoenix is a bit compulsory, like a runaway cart crashing its way down the street.

There's a smile for Yoshiaki, and a long moment looking at his elaborate, and prepared way ahead of time, offering for today.

[Matsu Inori]

Remember that healthy appetite from before? Yeah, one solid meal half a day ago wasn't going to address that completely, so Inori wandered over to the table set up by Bayushi Choudai and helped herself to some of his offerings.

He does outdo me, even without access to proper tools Inori thought, not with any rancour.

She was just happy about the food - and halfway dreading what this Kakita was going to unleash on everyone. And...was there a commotion elsewhere with that Phoenix? She had not seen him before.

[Kakita Akuba]

Akuba considers the first exhibit of the day.

"It is good to see an honest self-appraisal," she says of it. "Would that others saw themselves so clearly."

Moving to observe the second, she notes "Grey is a good color for this presenter. The unpressed cloth is also apropos."

[Akodo Yaukwari]

Noting the presence of only one judge, Yakuwari begins writing.

The principal judge, Kakita Hyoukasha, was absent from the event on the day of Honesty. The secondary judge, his wife, Kakita Akuba, addressed their shared duty, turning first to the origami presentation of Kitsune Shizenko and then to the dance of Mirumoto Jakuchou, offering her typical commentary about both.

Bayushi Choudai presented a cooking demonstration of open technique, using rough equipment to prepare a plain sushi meal of which he partook in front of the assembly. He also apologized for earlier misdeeds. Curiously, Shosuro Hatsuki, who followed the other Scorpion, removed the usual accoutrements of her artwork, the inverted performance suiting the theme of the day well.

Asahina Asano also presented, and Togashi Yoshiaki demonstrated his skill with the needle, his art bespeaking the truth-revealing light of the Sun.

Several artists seemed to take the idea of Honesty to mean baring their means of creation. Horiuchi Shuriyani began a woodcarving of the Fortune of Honest Work to good effect, and Matsu Inori composed a painting that reminds us all of the burden of upholding each tenet of Bushido.

She walks directly past the next exhibit, ignoring it.

Hatsuki bows, but watches out of the corner of her eye with concern. This could go bad.

She wasn't hard to find. She was standing in the place where her art had been displayed the previous days. Telling however, was she had not pulled the grey screens over, nor had she displayed anything. Instead she was just fiddling with the laces on the painting case, while Kakita Akuba drew ever closer.

She'd seen the little gathering of Nadeshiko and the Scorpions pointedly ignoring her, but the approach of Nadeshiko did not surprise her.

She was always the kindest. Even if she never noticed me, even if it was never directed at me, her warmth could be felt across the room. It's nice to experience it one last time. she mused.

She bowed politely.

"Good evening, Doji-san. Congratulations on your success in the competition so far." she offered with equal politeness.

[Doji Nadeshiko]

That eases her worries a little: she'd thought the woman might ignore her. "Good evening. Thank you, Mikan-san. Could I perhaps trouble you for a moment of your time? I understand you're quite busy with our own presentation, but... I had hoped we could talk."

Ah she said my name! My name! Mikan thought with a blush.

She looked over at the steadily advancing form of of Kakita Akuba.

"I....suppose I can talk at least until the judge arrives." she agrees.

[Doji Nadeshiko]

"Thank you!" Nadeshiko's voice is light with the feeling: connection. Perhaps... Oh, part of her hopes the judge is stalled. She should have done this sooner. Foolish, foolish girl. "I remember your face a little, from the Academy. What was your name before gempukku?"

I did everything you're supposed to do. I left anonymous poetry, clever little references in my art...but, it was drowned out, you never noticed." she lamented.,

"At...the Academy? You were always surrounded, Doji-san. Friends, admirers, well-wishers....a perfect little world with no room for someone like me in it. I...tried to get your attention. I did everything you're supposed to do. I left anonymous poetry, clever little references in my art...but, it was drowned out, you never noticed." she lamented.,

"Oh..." Her head bows at that. "I wish you had signed your name. You sound... there's a loneliness in your voice." Nadeshiko straightens up then, voice growing more firm: "If it matters -- I would have had room for you then. There's room for you, now, if you're courageous enough to share it. I cannot say I know all your pain or hardships, Mikan-san, but ... I feel we may be kindred."

The woman turns her head to face her, eyes opening fully, desperately hoping to meet Mikan's. "Your painting from yesterday. Could you... tell me its meaning, to you?"

They all pale beside yours.

"I'm no great student of origami, but Kitsune-san seems to have a knack. Mirumoto-san's dances are..."

He made a seesaw motion with his hand.

"Perhaps not my particular taste, but very skillfully executed."

He paused to consider Asano's work.

"I think Asahina-san has a great deal on her mind. A bit more focus would probably help a promising start."

He moved on.

"Togashi-san's artwork is... I don't know what I would get at his hands if I were to ask," and if the Scorpion would tolerate him getting a tattoo that made concealing his identity more difficult, "but I can say that seeing his work has made me consider the possibility. It's beautiful."

He watched the Horiuchi at work and gave a half-smile.

"Again, not an art form I have enough expertise in to give an informed comment, but it's lovely, and I do like seeing the work involved in making such pieces."

And then there was Inori.

"Matsu-san is a friend, so perhaps I'm biased, but I've really come to appreciate her style. This piece is nicely constructed, and a bit less literal than some paintings, but it's also... direct. Fitting, hm?"

The Tsi's display caused him to turn his head to the side. And grin.

"And I think Tsi-san is hoping we'll all get the point, neh? I like it."

Hatsuki concealed a chuckle behind her fan. "I think she's got a tip for us. Still... I can't help but just be reminded of your cooking when I see it."

Apparently it really did invite someone to their own aims. Hers were always focused his way.
