Kyoukasha nods.

"I suppose for some it is simply too demanding to emphasize a specific aspect of bushido in their work." he conceded. "Thus the line is drawn between the sublime and the merely good."
Akuba smiles at her husband. It is a warm gesture, if brief.

"Which of a twin performance should receive the attention?" she asks. "Which kneels, and which does the teacher hit in the face?"
The smile is returned, warm, if weary.

"If two are offered, two must be judged. But such an approach tends to highlight the flaws of both, rather than the strengths." he replied.

Oh. So that's what that is. Not sure I want to hear what they have to say about my piece....

She frowned.

Okay that's a lie. I do wanna know, but I'm not sure I'll be happy once I do hear it. Which reminds me...I still have to risk getting poisoned by a scorpion.

So she said, taking her own sample of the Fugu. It was tougher than Inori had expected, but not unpleasantly so, with a pure, subtle but powerful taste. And...was this imagination or was there the slightest prickle on her tongue?

It felt risky. She was not sure how to feel about that.

Interesting, at any rate.

"You might have no time at all", she shrugged. "Not everyone drones on with their duty. Some prefer to act."

She didn't comment on his painted expression. She was more concerned about the gas coming out from between the Crane maidens legs.
"Suggesting I should find a dangerous enough duty to let me escape..." He nodded to the canvas. "A sulfurous fate?"

His On held, but barely.

"I think you might have a future in sadane, with a little polish, Ameiko-san."

Her sense of humor reminded him of his sister Shino. Maybe he could write a few letters, see about orchestrating some courtly training?

Fortunes know she'd be a better listener than I was.

"Careful you don't get your head turned."

His tone was momentarily quite serious. Ameiko had excelled all of her life, and was correspondingly confident. She was damned good, to be sure, but... she was also so damned young.

"Flattery comes all too easily to some of us."

Especially those of us with what Ogoe-kun likes to call a "complete lack of character" when he's in one of his moods.

"Truthfully, senpai, I know this", she said. "I also await the day a challenge approaches.". She seemed excited at the idea. "I've often thought about what I would do. Will I complain like so many others or will I continue my course?"

"I would say that is likely to depend less on the magnitude of the challenge, and more its nature."

He paused. Seemed to be fishing about in his mind for the right words, and, failing to find them, spoke anyway.

"Our weaknesses seldom truly make themselves felt until it's too late. And we all have them- sometimes in quite unexpected ways."

He hated how much he sounded like Obachan when he said it, because, after all, she had been wise. He, on the other hand, could claim a few virtues, but wisdom wasn't one of them.

Where he could barely keep from cheering at Hatsuki's presentation, Nadeshiko's seemed to sink a bit of a meathook into his innards.

The real bushi fought and died in a war we weren't even trying to win. I dressed up as a Crab and played house.

Hyoukasha took a moment before responding, apparently something in the presentation had him thinking.

"Indeeed." is all he has to comment before moving on to the next.
