Rolling Dice for Telling Lies; or, How to Use Sakkaku

Post by Fukurokujin » Sun Feb 06, 2022 6:04 pm

This time, we'll be using the most excellent Sakkaku--developed by one of FallenAsh's own, Ceithir (Skarn)---to roll dice for this game. Rolls made on other dice rolling programs will not be considered valid rolls.

A brief walkthrough of how Sakkaku works...

First, you'll want to sign up for an account (if you haven't already--but maybe you have). It's under "Login" at the top.

When Rolling Dice:

* Select New Roll > AEG Roll & Keep (d10)

* Place "Shadows Over Naishou" in the Campaign box, just like that, without the quotation marks. If you do not do this, the roll will not show up in the Shadows Over Naishou campaign folder, and your roll will not count. Please do not forget this step.

* Place your character's name in the Character box.

* Place the description for your roll in the Description box. This must include the timeslot the dice roll is occurring in, the reason the dice roll is occurring, what dice pool you are rolling, if you are spending Void, what effect the Void is being spent for, how many Raises you are calling, what effect those Raises have, and the final TN after adjusting for raises and other penalties/bonuses.

Examples:

D1/EM Event, Step 1 Void/Meditation, Void spent for +1k1, 1 raise called to gather support for Orokos, TN 20
D2/LA Dancing in my room, Agi/Perform: Dance, Void spent for Skill, TN 17 from wound penalties
D3/EE Combat, R4, Knockdown Critic A, Agi/Kenjutsu (Katana), Void spent for +1k1, 2 raises called for Knockdown, 1 raise for Extra Damage, TN 30

* Check the radio buttons for what your dice explode on (if they do; remember that unSkilled rolls don't explode unless you spend Void for the Skill), whether Emphases or similar effects apply, and whether you'll keep high or low dice.

* Finally, you just need to put your dice code in Your Dice Pool. This is in standard R&K notation (XkY+/-Z).

NB: The Guided Roll option will help you keep things clean and detailed. It's an excellent feature, highly recommended.

Noting Raises and Purpose

Please remember to note why you're rolling dice and any Raises you might be calling on your roll. If you do not note your number of Raises - or you call one Raise when you intended to call three, or visa versa - then you're out of luck, because what you wrote in the description section is what counts.

If you roll the wrong pool of dice, if the correct pool would be larger, the result from the smaller pool stands. If the correct pool would be smaller, you must reroll with the correct pool. Please inform the GMs in your private forum regardless.

Failing to properly fill out the the description box as noted above is grounds for having the roll automatically fail at GM discretion.

Remember if you are making an unSkilled roll, you may not call raises, nor may you benefit from Free Raises.

If you have any questions, please feel free to start up a topic in your private forum.
Yes, this is a Naishou game. Please do use the Shadows over Naishou campaign tag.
