Advantages and Disadvantages

**Forbidden Knowledge (Kolat) or (Gozoku) will be considered to be members of those conspiracies. Characters with Forbidden Knowledge (Maho) may begin play with one Rank 1 Maho spell known.

All other Advantages and Disadvantages from the book may be taken without restriction.

New Disadvantage: Kudo Stigma

Having lived among the Minor Clans, you find yourself looked down upon by Great Clan and Imperial samurai. They respond to you as if your Status is 5 points lower than it actually is. Receiving an Imperial appointment will mitigate this somewhat--an Emerald Magistrate is an Emerald Magistrate, after all--but you will still be treated with less respect than others in the same position. (This may not be combined with any of the location-based advantages and disadvantages from Strongholds of the Empire, Book of Void, or Naishou Province.)

About Ancestors
Most published Ancestor advantages will be allowed for the game. Due to the high cost of many of those advantages, Ancestors will not count against a character's maximum number of Advantage points. Note also...
  • Ososuki & Akomachi (GC 170) are Fox Clan Ancestors, and are not available to members of the Mantis Clan.
  • Characters of any Clan or other background can take Shadowlands Ancestors (Hida Atarasi, Kuni Yori, Chuda Bikimi, Yogo Junzo), but there will be consequences...
  • Komori Iongi, Toku, and Morito Garen (SoE 244 - 245) are not available as Ancestors, as those characters are still among the living.
  • Hida Heichi may only be taken as an Ancestor with GM approval.

Techniques
Rank 1: The Way of The Lion
- You may either ignore an opponent's TN bonus from armor or gain a Free Raise when attacking. You gain a +1k0 bonus on your first melee attack against an opponent in a skirmish, or against any opponent who has declared a Raise on an attack against you since your last turn.

Rank 2: Strength of Purity
- During a skirmish, you may add your Honor Rank to the total of any single roll during your turn. You may not increase damage in this manner, nor may you use this technique while assuming the Center stance.
