"You certainly have high standards Isawa-sama." Yoshino responds with poise and tact. "That might be difficult, ne?"

She mulls it over. The only shugenja she knew well was Asano, but she didn't know how powerful she was for a shugenja. It had never come up.

"Will you be staying in town after this, perhaps to watch the art competition? There is a tea house, the Sunset Leaves Tea Room, that does very good snacks and tea." Yoshino glanced toward Asano. "Perhaps I could host a tea ceremony for you both as a small token of gratitude for tonight?"

"Oh yes, I'm staying in town afterwards. I can watch you for awhile, make sure you don't gather the attention of any more unfortunate spirits. Can you imagine the uproar if I saved you tonight, and I left, and tomorrow ANOTHER ghost showed up? People would say I was a fraud! I swear, people are real jerks even when you help them out. And then when the competition is over, we can ride north together! You do have a horse right? IF you don't, tell Utemaro to get you a horse. I'm not WALKING you all the way north." he rambled.

For a good while Yoshino had been politely following along. Then Kojiro oh so delicately brought up riding north together. That she'd need a horse. That he very clearly expected she'd be headed north.

What?!?

"W-Why am I heading north? I have duties to do in Crab lands." Her expression turned horrified. "I am not having children with a Yogo for the sake of some trial and error curse research."

[Asahina Asano]

Asano bristled inside; Maybe she didn't know much about removing curses or banishing spirits, but surely she was enough to watch over and protect Yoshino? Admittedly, she knew inside Yoshino had been sent here to do the other way around, with how her family thought, but this was something spiritual! Not some bandits or political machinations, no? ...was she that bad of a priestess?

She didn't interrupt the conversation, especially with pertinent questions going back and forth. Maybe Yoshino would like it up north? It wasn't as if she could keep her Crane cousin to herself, no matter the rumors or otherwise...

Kojijro waved away the Doji's protests.

"Had, curse-chan...will have had? Are about to have had? Not quite sure on the wording on that. But you go where your lord tells you to go, and I got where my lord tells me to go, right? And if my lord says 'Hey, Ko-awesome, head down to Teitaku Town, smite this troublesome ghost, and escort curse-chan back for her new duties that her lord is going to assign her to'......well that's just putting one foot in front of the other. Much as I dislike walking" he said.

He titled his head a bit.

"Unless you're going to defy your lord? Throw off your colors and run about the world as a wolf? That'd be pretty dangerous, for more than just yourself. Troublesome too. I mean, sure, I could get a box to put you in, but then I'd have to hire people to carry the box, and it's a long trip, so we'd probably have to get a wagon, and the roads aren't always the best. Really, curse-chan, I think you should just obey your lord when your new orders come in. Much nicer trip riding than being shipped."

[Doji Yoshino]

The Isawa received a long glare. "My Lord's orders are another matter, and I've heard no mention of such." She was getting fed up of being called curse-chan too. Her hand holding the lantern trembled. She stilled it with the other.

"It's Yoshino, and I would like to understand what benefit there is to my going to Phoenix lands. I have no contacts in your lands or knowledge of your customs. I'm unmarried, and you are, so traveling alone with you is unacceptable." Of course having children with anyone not one's husband would be wrong too. If her Lord ordered that, as some sick return favour for the Phoenix, then it would be kanshi... and a strongly worded letter iterating the whole saga to higher authorities. Any Lord that did that would not be in position for long.

She took a few deep breaths. No, it surely wasn't that. Kojiro was just making her flustered by jumping topic non-stop. He was like a young puppy. Excitable and easily distracted. Too busy marvelling over his newfound ability to bark and chase his own tail.

"It is not customary to hear orders from a stranger from outside one's Clan Isawa-sama. Would you believe me if I said I had orders for you from your Lord?"

[Isawa Kojiro]

Kojiro laughed at that. He laughed at alot.

"Ah, what did I say about people being real jerks even when you're helping them?" he says with a rueful shake of the head. "I've read ahead to the next chapter of 'The Life of Doji Yoshino, AKA Curse-chan" and I try to tell Doji-san about it and she's all 'Nooooo, no spoilers!'

He grinned at her.

"It's ok Doji-san. It's a long trip north. We'll have plenty of time to talk about your fantastic new duties and the institute along the way. But for now, I think were about where we need to be." he concluded.

[Doji Yoshino]

"So you do know my name." He just chose not to use it. She'd remember that. "I hadn't realised you were a fortune teller too."

The grin was not returned. From where she was it was Kojiro being the jerk.

His statement is acknowledged with a simple nod. Yoshino was glad she at least had Asano nearby for some support.
