Circuitously, yes.

Crane and Imperial can be skipped, but yes, you'd go Unicorn => Scorp => Crab.
Unless you wanted to go west of the Shinomen...but there aren't roads.

I mean, there's a gift to cutting everything inessential away and conjuring a clear impression of what's going on in very few words. Mason was very good at that trick and I learned a lot from his style. In Shizenko's case, simple forms for a clean and simple-looking art makes sense.

But I'm also honest enough to recognize that it isn't my style. That I have different rhythms that appeal to me, and a taste for going a little more florid and architectural. Gonna write more of an Iris Van Herpen kind of thing instead of Coco Chanel, to make a possibly opaque fashion metaphor that drives folks to Google. But the learning does help me claw away too much excess, hopefully. XD

Which is to say, everyone has a style to work with and is going to do better figuring out what that is and if/how they want to change within it.

Meanwhile, today's post will be a challenge because it's finally pulling some things together that, I think, are going to require more wall-of-textiness than I actually like doing. It may also just be an overwrought mess of verbal spaghetti. We'll see.

For me, personally, I've always been on the more verbose end of the spectrum - for me the challenge was to pare away the bits that are not interesting, relevant or helpful. I try to envision the scene - what the character would say or do. Add one stage direction, mannerism or gesture - then lay it out and describe it, and then at the end give it another once-over and trim.

The biggest change was learning from other excellent partners in other games to always give the other guy or gal something to work with in longer posts - it's not so important in short posts with quick back and forth, but if you're gonna erect a wall give the other poster thoughts, gestures or details they can latch on to and use for their reply.

As for "thought bubbles" - unless your character is god-level Courtier or Empath or whatnot they probably cannot read them clearly, but still pick up on the mood.

I'm rambling and preaching again. Verbose, see? Oh well. I hope it's somewhat useful and not too overbearing

I inevitably write a modest amoount, or almost telgram-esque short pieces- some of that is simply that I, the player, do not haver the information needed to go into proper detail about, say, every thread in Choudai's kimono, or in the musical semitones Hiruma Mei would hit playing her biwa Going into too muich detail would make the gaps even more apparent than they already are.

Some of it's that, to continue mixing metaphors here, I'm more of an impressionist than an advocate of photorealism.

Point is, as the Ponycorn puts it, we all have our styles.
