Hats is gonna die in the epilogue, so all info is fair game!

She was a lot of fun. I don't usually play kinda mean characters like she is, so she's a fun departure from my usual tendencies.

Since turnabout is fair play...

Favorite scene this game?

Any un-explored Hatsuki backstory? (I'm privy to some details other players might not be, of course)

She debuted as a Crane, but really seemed to take to life as a Scorpion, despite being pretty sour on the idea in the Painted City. How does the character see the adjustment?

Coolest new relationship Hatsuki developed during this game?

Which presentation Hatsuki did was your favorite?

What was Hatsuki's favorite art presented that wasn't hers? What was yours? (Both Choudai and everyone else :P)

Outside of Choudai and their shared scenes:
Who were her favorite PCs?
What was your favorite scene?

After the epilogue:
What's going to happen to the babies?

1. Any scene where Hatsuki got to get mad about something was fun. I think I enjoyed playing her the most when she was pissed off. So I think the Mikan aftermath was one of my favorites.

2. It never came out openly, but Hatsuki is a murderer. When her brother's lover broke his heart, she killed him with poison. She has never felt guilty for that. It was probably good she has some mellowing influences in her life. The risk totally existed of her becoming much more comfortable with murder over time. She also doesn't get along with her parents, who were very involved in her betrothal and were much more traditional.

3. Hatsuki sees joining the Scorpion as probably for the best in the end. She's much better at it.

4. Nadeshiko! She was a great new development and gave Hatsuki more depth.

5. Probs the makeup stabbing.

What was Hatsuki's backstory then? Some Nothing corruption?

I enjoyed our scenes. Yoshino was HIGHLY wary of Hatsuki and Choudai at first. By the end she was pretty chill as neither had raised any flags. That could have easily been exploited, but both of you were very friendly. Your information about shadow creatures made her feel pretty hopeless though haha.

Hope you liked the storytelling. I had wanted to do that earlier, but gaki~!

The ending for Hatsuki was sad, but moving. Nice send off.

Nadeshiko's Duty poem for both. It brought me to tears OOC, and Hatsuki and Choudai's "oh shit" reactions were fun.

I wish she'd had more interaction but I was most of the way to burnout when we started. Yoshino and Inori were both fun to interact with, and of course, Nadeshiko. Best cousin.

Watching Choudai get drunk with Tomodachi was lawls.

The twins will be going to Choudai to raise, since he was a "good friend" of Hatsuki's. They're about 4-5 as of the epilogue scene.

Hatsuki was a bit of a naive Doji princess in her early life who showed talent in painting and especially song. However, she noticed that the Kakita Artisan School was really running other students ragged. Lots of imposter syndrome, etc. This both made her more inclined to look at the school critically, and turned her to making use of her painting skills for makeup, because she wanted others around her to be able to look at themselves and see how awesome they really were. It was successful, so she thought she'd pursue that as an art. She encountered a lot of pushback from her instructors, and, Hatsuki being Hatsuki, she dug in her heels and pursued it with even greater dedication. The resistance also made her progressively more cynical, and the critical attitude toward her work taught her to disregard the feelings of others that don't align with her personal goals. As you can imagine, this didn't go over well with the Crane, and she basically committed political suicide for her art, which also didn't sit well with her courtier parents. And this is how a Doji ended up marrying out and into a secondary family.

I'm glad! And I'm glad you enjoyed the epilogue.

(And the Nothing corruption came from her second game, where she got Shadow Bolted and failed the void roll :P )

Oh yeah, forgot to add that. Thank, Choudai.

Now that I've read that Epilogue...wow. That hits hard. It's well written. Kudos!

That said, and here's the question: Was that always gonna happen? Did anything happen in this game that changed the trajectory of Hatsuki's fate, and if so, what happened and how did it affect her?

I was wondering if that was in that game. It's long enough ago that I was like "I think she was in that one???" I did remember the hints in Painted City that she'd murdered.

Also kudos on that epilogue. I'm a sucker for some Scorpion tragedy. Likewise the stabbed box as an appropriate and effective post for a failed roll.

Hatsuki's definitely grown into Scorpionhood, and has been interesting to watch develop over the various games.

What's the art she'd like to have done, but didn't for whatever reason?

Yup. Choudai actually had an early version of this ending written at the end of Painted City and we kinda revised it to both play into it, and include Kumaji and the twins.

I was actually thinking she should have one more kid - her husband deserves to have one, really, and even she feels that way at the end of this game, but I suspect it's too late to alter that.

I actually completely blanked out that game until this one, so you're not the only one vague about whether she was there. It was the Nothing's influence!

The stabbed box felt right especially for the end of the tournament. Sort of a "fuck absolutely all of this."

She never got to do much singing. She's actually quite adept at it, but she was so focused on other stuff going on that there wasn't much opportunity.

Fortunately, Rokugan actually respects its teachers... Plus, Hats has a rank of Wealth and probably more with the whole Sunset Leaves thing. >_>
