[D5 EA Open] Taryu Jiai Demo

by Kitsune Shizenko
Shizenko had asked for nice location to make this demonstration and was granted a safe place to do so. She sat in seiza waiting for who would like to practice such art with her.
Raakun sat next to her as well.

Sriyani had been invited to join in the demonstration, a bit unsure of how it would all go. While tales of sorcerous duels were something she'd heard of from the lands beyond the sands, those used entirely different magics, and she'd only heard of rare duels among shugenja.
She offered her fellow priestess a bow, jewelry jingling. "Good afternoon, Kitsune-san," she glanced to the pet? companion? and offered it a nod as well.

Shizenko looked up to who was addressing her. The Kitsune stood up and bowed. "Good afternoon Unicorn sama. Thank you for accepting this one's invitation." She straighten. "This one is Kitsune Shizenko and my companion Raakun." Raakun gave a small bow.

"Hello Raakun." Her lips twitch in a small smile at the name before she glances around the space. "Mmm, just us then? And...spent the winter in a small Phoenix court. They did some of the little things different than I'd seen before." The order of blessings and the level of, unnecessary to her eyes, showiness came to mind.

"I have visited the forest of the Phoenix and studied somethings in the Asako libraries. It was interesting sight." The Kitsune noted the lack of people gathered. It may be for the best wouldn't like to hurt an innocent bystander. "So it seems... I haven't seen many shugenja here."

by Doji Utemaro
It would not do for a demonstration to lack and audience, and Doji Utemaro was not the sort of host to leave a guest in need. He, along with a small group of local Crane, gathered to witness the feats that were about to be demonstrated.

Asano arrived as well, even though she was late... There was so much to handle between Yoshino's troubles and the competition, she'd very nearly forgotten about the demonstration.

The arrival of another Asahina prompts a smile and a nod.
"Cousin," is spoken with warmth.

She smiles slightly, "I think there are not so many of us who spend enough time on artistry to be called here, I think. Others feel it means we've diverted attention from our spiritual duties." She'd heard a bit of the latter.
Glancing out at the gathering crowd, she fades back a bit. "May need to announce something to the crowd. I'm not sure of more than half of those being ready for what they'll see."

"Yes of course..." Raakun stood on his two legs besides Shizenko. "I will do the honors..." The Kitsune addressed the honored guests. "Honored guests, we thank you for coming to this demonstration on the art of taryu jiai. Hopefully it will be of your liking and none will get hurt."

Sriyani bows to their audience in a jangle of jewelry, heavy black braid shifting over her shoulder. "As a demonstration, there is no formal declaration of grievance or associated redress." She glances toward Utemaro. "As we are calling upon the elemental spirits in the area, you may see some...changes to the area that seem dramatic. I assure you that the earth's memory will settle it back as if it never moved when we are done." It felt right to offer at least that much reassurance. Though they might have to go chase down some scattered items if the Kitsune called upon the air.
Then her bow is for Shizenko, hands at her sides, already slowing her breath for the focus she would need.

Starting to get rolls made so they don't run into D6.

As the Kitsune set herself in position. She bowed at Utemaro and then to the Horiouchi. The tanuki sat between the Asahina to protect himself from the things that are about to happen. Shizenko seemed to be faster as she concentrated to read her opponent and know what insight she could get.

She quiets her mind, attuning herself to the elements within and around them both, feeling for those hints in the young Fox that offer insight into their likely approach. Unlike an iaijutsu duelist, there is no angled sort of combat stance reducing how much is presented toward her opponent. This isn't that sort of duel. You can't offer a smaller target to the kami, even if they were planning to strike directly at one another. Instead, she stands with feet shoulder-width apart and well-settled, hands cupped one within the other against her belly, shoulders relaxed.

The Horiuchi will not that the Kitsune is surrounded by earth kami. Slowly the woman's prayer comes to life, a bear made of rocks and stones. It looks life like yet the jagged edges of the rocks may show the real nature of the creature.

Where two priestesses call up the earth to square off, even standing out of range doesn't mean bystanders will not be affected. Deep rumbles do not move the earth beyond their prepared space, but the sound of them rolls through the mere blood and bone of those nearby. Sriyani reaches both arms forward in entreaty, looking at the earth before her. Palms up, her hands are raised along with a massive pillar of lumpy stone, small plants clinging to edges.
With a fierce cry, she punches forward, a chunk of the pillar nearly as large as she is flies out toward the rocky bear at the same moment it moves to attack. Unsurprisingly, earth from the same ground seems to move as one, even when called up by different people.
The crack and smash of colliding stone can be heard through much of the town, and felt by all nearby.

Not just close, but equal. So a very kharmic strike...fitting for a demo. XD
Strike, so it's out of the way as I head back to work.
D5 Taryu-jiai: Strike Spellcraft/Earth Void to make it showy. TN? | 6k4 ⇒ 23 Forgetting how to set ATN on avatar critters...probably hits?
D5 Taryu-jiai: Avatar damage roll, if needed | 3k3 ⇒ 32 Earth avatars can probably take that without an issue. But should be some impressive bits flying around.

The two avatars hit each other at the same time. The bear holding the pile of rocks and vines. The bear was broken down back into a pile of rocks. The Kitsune bowed to her opponent and then to the host. "Thank you"

The remnants of the pillar sank back into the earth. Sriyani returns the Kitsune's bow, then bows to the earth, returning to it's normal state...the most inert of the elements, and then to the host once more. If any have questions about what they've seen, she defers to Shizenko, hostess of the event, after saying, "thank you for the chance to test our skills."
**************
TN is ?? Not sure how that is determined for avatar given the various versions running around over the years. Likewise, wasn't aware of raises to reduce damage in some fashion. In the case of avatars, damage seemed more a mark of 'how impressive a boom do they make?' since it's unlikely to destroy them.
