The Opening Blossom had been enjoying some nice additional business, but not so much that it's propietor couldn't leaving things in her competent, if young, workers.

Harujin offered a polite bow to her eldest cousin as she looked about the somewhat barren tea room.

It's as I heard. she wondered,

"Ah, cousin, I hope you've been well. Is there something I can help you with?" she offered with a smile.

Like a full remodel of your teahouse to something that actually brings in people?

The waving grass tea room wad even busier, but family came first, regardless of the cost.

Natsujin made her own entrance with big steps and a bow to her two cousins.

"Good morning, cousins. A fine day for tea, neh?" she offered cheerfully.

After all, the branch sure must have an overstock of it.

Akijin puffs in, having had to hurry.

Business is good.

"Apologies, cousins," she says, bowing. "It's been busy."

Then she looks around.

"Oh."

"Oh, indeed," says Fuyujin.

She sits heavily.

"So, which of you is it, then?"

Harujin blinks at her cousin. She had never seen Fuyujin look so defeated.

"Which of us....? I'm sorry, cousin....I don't understand...." she said, honestly confused.

Surely Fuyujin didn't think one of her cousin's had been sabotaging her business.

Natsujin shakes her head.

"I think our cousin means, which of us will be named the successor. I'll admit, business at my tea house has been quite sunny, but I don't think I'll be the one to reap this particular harvest." she explained.

"I've had...investments," Akijin says, catching her breath. "That Bayushi cook put in a fair bit, as did the Shosuro woman--the makeup one, I mean. So has that one Doji, the one who trained with the Yasuki."

She breathes in and out again.

"I don't care if they think she's cursed; she's just about the best investor I've had."

"And you'll gamble Grandmother's work on that?" Fuyujin asks, sharply.

She huffs out a breath.

"But it doesn't matter what I think, I guess."

Harujin shook her head at that.

"That's not true, cousin. Not even a little bit." she denied. "You might not be our senior by that much, but you always shared what you learned with us. We wouldn't be half as successful as we are now without your help. Do you really think you'll be polishing teacups in the back as a result of this?"

Natsujin nodded along to the energetic Harujijn.

"That's very true. We're family, we help each other. And if Akijin gets a big head just because of this, some time in the koi pond will shrink it back down!" she offered energetically.

"The important thing," Akijin says, "is that we can move ahead. We have to. And I think we can do it in a way that makes sure we leave something for the family when we're gone."

Her hand drops to her belly.

"Something for the next generation."

Fuyujin is the first to catch it.

Her face brightens.

"Oh, Aki, that's wonderful! Congratulations!"
