[D6 LA] No Kitchen? No Problem (open)

Hatsuki sat out on the deck overlooking the teahouse's garden, nursing a cup of the honey ginger tea. A small wave of nausea had affected her a little earlier, and she reflected again on how Choudai had chosen this place well, even if its kitchen was out of commission at the moment due to nonsense.

Next to her, the dog was chilling, enjoying some generous head scritches.

It felt freeing, having dealt with the Mikan situation... even if she herself didn't know she had been dealt with yet. Her eyes went up to the green leaves of the ginko trees, not yet heading into their warm colors that would herald the name of the teahouse. She hoped she would eventually be able to see that.

The lowering light of the late afternoon was more comfortable, too. The sun wasn't quite setting yet, but the shadows were growing longer. She found herself feeling more at home when that happened now...

Of course, Mikan wasn't the only troublesome Crane in these lands.

Out on a walk and taking in some of the scenery with a bored eye, Kakita Hyoukasha entered the garden.

Of all fucking people... At least it's not Mikan.

Well, it might actually have been more helpful if it was Mikan, honestly.

Still, she was properly Crane-raised, after all, and he was probably technically her sempai. She set aside her teacup for a moment and bowed.

"Good evening, Kakita-sama."

Crane etiquette demanded a bow and a greeting of proper depth when greeted, and such was dispensed.

"Ah, hello Shosuro-san." he offered, taking in the surroundings. "Looking for inspiration for your presentation tomorrow?"

"I have a few ideas floating around for it. Just a few decisions to make about it at this point," she replied, scritching the dog's ears. "Fortunately, tea and petting dogs is excellent for making important decisions."

Her expression and voice appeared to be as serious at the grave.

"And yourself, Kakita-sama? Do you seek inspiration out here?"

A small shrug.

"Inspiration strikes when and where one least finds it, Shosuro-san." he admitted. "Your artwork in the competition does certainly suggest a diversity of inspiration sources for you."

"Well... Influences, certainly. Everything from nature, other people, experiences, the best of others' art... sometimes the worst of others' art..." Her mind went back to her conversation with Nadeshiko for a moment. Doing makeup for that performance was a time. "Comes into play. The inspiration and how to get to it depends on the purpose of the work, though. That's more difficult."

Hyoukasha nods.

"It shows." he says, taking a moment to look at the garden for a moment.

"It's an interesting focus for your artistic talent. I would assume that paired with the title of sapphire ambassador, you'll become quite well known for it." he adds honestly.

"Thank you, Kakita-sama."

"It's possible that I will, though as long as the art itself is acknowledged by the Empire as such, I'm satisfied. If others are inspired to move beyond what I've started and take it into the future, that would be much better."

She has been a bull-headed stubborn troublemaker over it to a somewhat infamous degree. Making the Kakita Scool eat their words would be infinitely satisfying.

As if cut down by her words, Hyoukasha stumbled and caught himself on the railing.

"Yes...I see...quite." he mumbled.

Oh. Was he okay? Making a fuss and asking unless he actually passed out would be untoward, though.

"Perhaps Kakit-sama would like to have a seat and join me for tea?" She asked instead. "The honey ginger is refreshing."

He nodded, though now that he was closer, he did look decidedly paler than he had looked the previous day.

"Ah..yes...I think that would be...a good idea. You have my thanks..Shosuro-san." he said before joining her for tea.

"Of course, Kakita-sama," she replied with a nod as she poured some tea from her pot after requesting another cup, handing it over carefully. "It is the least I can do."

It wasn't as though she didn't understand what dealing with this tournament with health challenges was like.

That elicits a wan smile.

"If courtesy is the least you can do, Shosuro-san, then you are certainly better than some." he said, receiving the tea.

"I have tried not to forget all the lessons I learned from my former Clan," she replied with a small bit of good-natured amusement.

She sipped her tea.

"That is a good reminder that I need to write down everything I've learned about my art, though."

Hyoukasha nodded.

"A good point. Your art is transient, like a song or origami, but records will need to be made if you wish for it to last beyond you." he agreed.

"Exactly," she agreed, making a mental note. "Besides, best not to force anyone to reinvent the wheel when it comes to anything you apply to the skin."

"Was there much trial and error while you developed your art, Shosuro-san?" he asked.

"A great deal. The Kakita Academy wasn't prepared for someone doing that, so I figured it out myself and how the techniques applied to my work from there," she replied as she gazed out across the garden. "The products available didn't always match what a piece needed, so I learned to make my own. I quickly came to understand the importance of doing a skin test."

Hyoukasha nodded.

"Impressive, Shosuro-san." he said in a voice that perhaps did not convey being impressed all that well.

But it did seem to the Shosuro that this was more than just disdain for her work or his usual boredom. The man seemed unwell, or perhaps....lessened somehow?

The tea did not seem to be having much of an effect on him.
