Calving this from Sriyani's Q&A because it's a more general thing...

I can also see the Otako-backing coalition possibly feeling less thrilled with it, since the rule was hidden to begin with. I think having that open from the start is a better bet.
Had we known, we might have tried some slimy sleazy schemings (which would fit for the Scorpion) but as an Otoko-backer, I can honestly say I'm not too fussed by it... and it made for a good bit of surprise for Otoko at the end.
I enjoyed the Amigos game, but the stakes for PCs were pretty low if you didn't have an Ally advantage.
Low stakes, yes, plus I haven't seen players try to rebuild and change the coalitions after the announcement - Saibankan mentioned in Discord that it was close, so those efforts may have actually changed things. I know some people (including me) weren't using their full potential even for Amigos, I only dedicated 5 of the artworks and lobbied only once - albeit for the other side
Honestly a preference order vote or a points panic thing is not perfect, but I think it's far better than letting the biggest bloc run away with the thing and that's it.
